Review and Giveaway: Exergen CLOSED

I was looking for a new thermometer, when I came across the Exergen Temporal Scanner. I had the ear one and was having trouble using it on my 7 month old. I never felt like it was positioned correctly and was constantly doubting its accuracy.
I started to research different options and what I discovered was Exergen. Their Temporal Scanner is an infrared thermometer that measures body temperature by taking a reading from the temporal artery. This thermometer is not only a more accurate way to measure, but it is also the least invasive.

Here is a short video of me taking my 4 year old's temperature.

See how easy it was. It did take a little practice to make sure that I was positioned correctly and scanning at the right speed. It was quicker than my old ear thermometer and I could even check his temperature now when he is sleeping.

Last time I went to the pediatrician's office, I noticed that they had switched to using these, so I feel that this is the best option available.

I know it sounds to good to be true, but I can definitely say this thermometer has it all. The Temporal Scanner is available at Babies R Us, Toys R Us, Walgreens, Costco, and Baby.com.

Now for the part you all have been waiting for, Exergen has offered one lucky reader a Temporal Scanner for their very own. Please follow the rules below for your chance to win.

Either I am first, or someone else is in the process of moderation, but here goes--my favorite aspect of the Exergen is that it is so totally non-invasive that you can take the temperature of a sleeping baby without disturbing the child.

I love the feature that makes this non-ivasive to my child. I have a daughter that has seizures with high fever, so I must take her temperature often when she is sick. It gets difficult when she gets so tired of the temperature taking process over and over. This would be a blessing. I like that so many medical professionals use these. Way better than the old method used on my first baby. Thanks, Stefanie Hartman fhartman@frontiernet.net

my favorite feature is how easy and accurate it is. As you gently stroke the thermometer across the forehead crossing over the temporal artery, the sensor in its probe performs two processes:

First it scans like a video camera, capturing naturally emitted infrared heat from the arterial blood supply at about 1000 “frames” per second, locking in the highest temperature it senses and;
Second, at the same time, a patented system measures the ambient temperature of the site where the temperature is being taken. The patented "arterial heat balance" (AHB) software then synthesizes the two separate readings to accurately determine and display body temperature

Mollie G. said...

So MANY things! Non-intrusive (don't have to stick anything IN to anything); accurate (taps in to a core-temperature blood flow just fine); fast (a second or two, and done) and minimal sensory input (can take a temp without waking someone up) -- particularly pertinent with my younger son, autistic and sensory defensive, with the stubbornness (and almost the strength) of a mule! Thanks!

Mollie G. said...

"Fishful thinking"? Excellent, awesome, and pertinent!! NICE find -- went through the initial five-step quiz, and I'm impressed with the particular incidents chosen to illustrate their "reinforcing resilience" concept. All things that are difficult for younger kids still working out social dynamics and awareness, and things that really evoke a strong parental nurturing "wish I could help with that" response. Again, thanks!

i love that The TemporalScanner has patented software, providing arterial heat balance

Anonymous said...

Hi! what I love about the Exergen temporal Scanner is the fact that Exergen patented the Arterial Heat Balance Method!! So it automatically measures the ambient temperature at the very same time it is measuring the temperature over the temporal artery. After that it calculates heat loss (in a normal or cold room) or gain (in a hot room), and instantly computes an accurate body temperature. I feel that this is MORE reliable that the EAR method!

Thank-you!
